Brazilian football legend Pele posted on Instagram on Saturday evening saying he feels ‘strong’ and is ‘with hope’ after reports that he has been moved to palliative care at Sao Paulo’s Albert Einstein hospital.
The footballing great is receiving palliative care after he stopped responding to chemotherapy treatment for colon cancer, according to Brazilian media.
The 82-year-old was first admitted to the hospital on Tuesday. Pele had a tumour removed from his colon in 2021 and has been having regular treatment at the hospital.
Pelé made his first appearance in the Brazilian national team aged 16. He won three World Cups during his international career in 1958, 1962 and 1970, the only player to do so.
The sporting legend is also the all-time leading goalscorer for Brazil with 77 goals in 92 games.
