With four pollsters indicating support for the incumbent Brazil President averaging above 60 percent among the country’s evangelicals, worshippers gathered for a mass at the Ecumenical Church headquarters in the Del Castilho neighbourhood of Rio de Janeiro on Saturday.

In the run-up to the election, some churches held church services to show their support for President Bolsonaro and the traditional family values he promotes.

In July and August, 40 percent of Bolsonaro’s public appearances outside the capital Brasilia were at religious marches, services or meetings. Evangelicals accounted for about 22% of Brazil’s population, according to the 2010 census.

On October 30, Bolsonaro and former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva will face off in the second round of presidential elections.
