A major clean-up campaign along the Nile River in Cairo took place on Thursday on the occasion of ‘World Cleanliness Day’.
Dozens of Egyptian volunteers collected plastic and rubbish from the river during the event, which was part of a campaign to clean up the Nile ahead of the upcoming COP27 global climate summit in November.
“We came today as part of the largest cleaning campaign at the level of the Republic to change climate behaviour as much as we can, and collect waste from the Nile River,” said Haiedy Anteer, a volunteer.
United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) is set to be held in Sharm el-Sheikh from 6 to 18 November.
