Thousands of protesters marched through Mexico City on Monday, the 8th anniversary of the disappearance of 43 college students from Ayotzinapa.
Activists, among them relatives of the missing, brought portraits of the students and shouted slogans demanding they be found and the perpetrators punished. Similar protests were held across the country.
The Ayotzinapa Rural Teachers’ College students disappeared in Iguala on September 28, 2014, after being allegedly taken into custody by local police officers involved in organised crime.
An official investigation concluded that police used deadly force against the students. Twenty-two police officers were arrested for their involvement in the incident.
