A court in Islamabad on Monday extended former prime minister Imran Khan’s pre-arrest bail in the terrorism case till September 20, after state prosecutors asked for more time to prepare their arguments.

Footage shows supporters of the former prime minister chanting slogans as they gather outside the court building in Islamabad and police officers guarding the event.

Imran Khan was seen leaving the court before he talked with reporters, saying that the case is a “disgrace for our country”.

The charges he faces relate to accusations that he threatene police officers and a judge – which he denies and says are politically motivated. If convicted, he could be jailed for up to 14 years and disqualified from running for office again.

The leader of Pakistan’s Tehreek-e-Insaf party was ousted as prime minister in a no-confidence motion in April.
