Wedding of your Dreams

FAQs To Include In Your Wedding Website [Episode 57] – Wedding of your Dreams

Wedding websites present an opportunity to communicate the information that simply doesn’t fit on a wedding invitation!

So we’re doing a three part series all about wedding websites:

  1. What your wedding website needs – Listen here
  2. How to lay out your wedding website FAQs and what to include – Listen here
  3. How to write the ‘about us’ part of your wedding website – 19th July

There are some crucial elements that need to be on your wedding website (the time and date, map to the location, gift registry) but what about the rest of the information? Here’s where FAQs come in! This section is a catch-all solution to all those pesky wedding questions.

FAQ stands for ‘Frequently Asked Questions’. It’s a fantastic trick to make sure you aren’t individually answering questions 100 times. It’s a place where guests can go to find the answers to their questions before texting or calling you. It really is a game changer!

If you’re wondering what should go on your FAQs page, then keep on reading. We’ve got a list of questions and answers you are welcome to copy and paste (just make sure you update the answers to match your wedding details).

Where is the wedding taking place?

Expert tip: Include your ceremony and reception location (if they are different) and share a link to the part of your website that has more venue information, maps and so on.

What time is the ceremony? What time is the reception?

Answer: Restate the time you’ve put on your invitation and then let people know if they should arrive early.

Is there a dress code?

Answer: “The dress code for our wedding is beach casual. Wear whatever you are comfortable in – a button-up shirt, a long flowy dress, or whatever brings you joy. We’re tying the knot on the beach, so we recommend avoiding high heels.”

Expert tip: Wedding attire can be stressful, so make it easier for your guests. Be specific, but don’t be demanding. Don’t tell guests exactly what to wear, but give them hints and guidelines.

What weather should we expect?

Answer: “Of course, we can’t guarantee anything, but we do get plenty of rain in Ireland. Keep an eye on the weather forecast here (share a link to a trusted weather forecast site) in the weeks leading up to the wedding, and please have an umbrella ready.”

Expert tip: Rain isn’t the only weather worth warning people about. If you’re getting married outdoors in the sun, ask guests to bring sunscreen.

Is the wedding indoors or outdoors?

Expert tip: It’s important for guests to know if your ceremony or reception will be indoors or outdoors. This helps them to plan properly, with a parasol, hat, extra coat, etc.

What should I expect after the ceremony?

Answer: “Right after the ceremony, the immediate family will take photos on the beach for an hour. Guests can drive over to the reception venue (about a 10 minute drive away) where snacks and drinks will be served. We will eat dinner at 8pm, with dancing to follow.”

Expert tip: If you’re able to provide a detailed wedding timeline, do it!

Will there be transport provided?

Answer: “We aren’t providing formal transport for the wedding, but our ceremony and reception are taking place in the same area. There is ample parking for those who are comfortable driving, and local taxis are a great option for those who aren’t.”

Expert tip: Provide links to taxi services, and link again to maps and location. Tell your guests exactly where they can park, whether or not parking is limited, and how much they should expect to pay for parking.

How do I RSVP?

Answer: “We hope you will be able to join us for our Big Day. Please click here (link or button) to let us know you are coming!”

Can I bring my children?

Answer: “Since we both have huge extended families, we have chosen to limit our guest list to those who are fourteen and over and we hope you understand. Let us know if there is anything we can do to help.”

Expert tip: This can be a touchy subject, so if you need creative ways to communicate that you are not inviting children, check out our tips here.

I can’t attend in person, will there be a virtual wedding celebration?

Answer: “We have decided to live stream our wedding ceremony for guests who can’t make it to be with us in person. You will find all details here (link).”

Expert tip: This is a great opportunity to include all the live stream information including passwords, timing, etc. Put it all in one place for guests to keep track of.

I have a question that I just can’t find the answer to, what’s the best way to contact you?

Expert tip: Your guests may have other questions, even after going through your FAQs. Let them know exactly how to reach you or your wedding planner (whether that is via phone call, text, email or a contact form on your website).

And tell them how to make contact on the day, so they don’t call or text you!
