Wedding of your Dreams

What To Say When You Propose (Episode Twenty Eight) – Wedding of your Dreams

Of course you want your proposal to be a special moment, where you share how you feel for your Other Half. But how do you make sure you say what’s on your heart? You do it by being prepared! If you were making a presentation at work, you wouldn’t just wing it, right? You’d put in time to prepare and be ready. A proposal is no different, even though, of course, it’s more personal. You want to be sincere! If you’re not sure what to say when you propose, we’ve got you covered! Take a look at our suggestions of what to say before you get to the key line, “Will you marry me?”.

Be yourself

The best way to avoid sounding robotic or like somebody else, is to make sure you sound like yourself. Use words you would usually use and try not to follow a script too much. Prepare, memorise the main points and then speak naturally.

Don’t hold back

Being emotional is ok! If you tear up, even if you have never done this in front of your partner before, embrace is. It’s a big moment and you shouldn’t hold back from showing all your emotions.

Talk about your relationship

Start your proposal by talking about how you felt when you two first met or when you knew you were in love with them. What was the moment you knew he/she was “the one”?

Share what you love about them

Talk about the things you love about them! Name all the qualities you love most and elaborate on them. Do you love your partner’s sense of humour? Maybe they are incredibly generous to those around them and you love that. Whatever it is, name it!

Tell them how they’ve changed your life

Has your partner helped you become more confident or kinder? What it is about them that’s helped you grow as a person? Thank them for the positive influence they’ve had on your life!

Dream about the future

Marriage is a vow to share the rest of your lives together, so talk about the future you envision having with your partner. Do you think about adventures together, children, growing old? Talk about these things.

End with those famous four words

Everything you’ve prepared to say up until this point will lead you to asking the big question. As you get to this moment, drop down on one knee and ask, “Will you marry me?”. Why reinvent the wheel when you’ve got four words that clearly ask the question. Then wait for them to say “yes”.
