Vandal attacks on two power substations in Moore County, North Carolina, left thousands of people without electricity on Sunday, according to tracking site poweroutage.us.
The authorities established a shelter in the county’s sports complex, so residents could access heaters, toilets and other amenities.
“Just have been kind of running around, every time I go out, I try to keep filling the car with gas. I had to get all the way to Sanford to get gas”, said Benita Lutz, a local staying at the shelter, who explained her family was charging their phones in the car.
The FBI reportedly joined the investigations to find out the author of the attacks on the energy substations, which are believed to be “intentional” and “targeted” after bullets were fired into the facilities.
