Russian troops from units of the Western Military District practised ‘mopping up’ operations at a mock settlement on a training ground in Belarus, as part of an intensive combat course.
Russian Defence Ministry footage, released on Wednesday, shows the military servicemen shooting standard-issue weapons, driving combat vehicles and going over obstacle courses.
According to the ministry, the participants practised their ‘mopping-up’ tasks in the specially built ‘city’, simulating a populated area on the training ground. On the battlefield, ‘mopping-up’ involves rooting out a small number of fighters after most have been defeated.
In addition to artillery shelling, the troops conducted training with T-80 tanks and carried out counter-attacks on a simulated enemy.
