Palestinian Foreign Affairs Minister Riyad al-Maliki claimed Israel is ‘injecting irreversible change’ in the State of Palestine while the international community is distracted by the conflict in Ukraine during a panel meeting at the Rome Mediterranean Dialogue forum on Friday.
“As long as the world is focusing on somewhere else, then the Israelis think and believe it is really a good opportunity for them to inject the change that they want and that change will be an irreversible change,” the Palestinian minister said.
Riyad al-Maliki went on to allege that Israel’s policy decisions in Palestine have been responsible for ‘atrocities’ for which the Palestinian people alone will bear the costs.
“Is it really bad to the Palestinians, such a government? Absolutely yes, because at the end of the day, who is going to pay the price? It is us, the Palestinians. It is not the international community, it is not you, it is not the Italian people, it is the Palestinian people,” he said.
The Mediterranean Dialogue conference takes place on Friday and Saturday, bringing together leaders of government, business and civil society in the region.
