Qatar: Saudi fans ‘proud’ of World Cup performance as team bows out of competition

On Wednesday, thousands of fans gathered in the Doha fan zone to watch Saudi Arabia’s last match at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

Footage shows fans, many of them women, watching the game against Mexico in the Saudi Arabian House fan zone in Doha the size of more than two football pitches.

“We are very proud of our team, they play very well against Argentina … this is a historical win for us,” said a fan referring to Saudi’s shocking victory against World Cup contenders Argentina in their first group match.

Mexico beat Saudi Arabia 2-1, but both teams dropped out of the tournament, finishing 3rd and 4th in Group C.

Qatar is currently hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup. This is the first time the competition has been hosted by an Arab country.
