Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova, speaking at a weekly briefing on Wednesday, commented on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the adviser to the head of the President’s Office Mykhailo Podolyak’s plans to visit Crimea next year.
“I want to tell them not to put it off. Come here, take a dip, swim. If you want to give interviews, you can take Ukrainian journalists. You are welcome,” Zakharova stressed.
The Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson also commented on the decision of the Russian side to postpone the meeting of the Bilateral Consultative Commission with the US on the Strategic Arms Reduction (START) Treaty.
“On all fronts, we note the highest level of toxicity and hostility on the part of Washington as part of the total hybrid war unleashed against Russia, virtually every US move towards our country is subordinated to a pathological desire to harm Russia wherever possible,” Zakharova said. “Such a situation could not but affect the sphere of arms control, which cannot be seen as something autonomous, existing in isolation from geopolitical realities.”
The spokesperson also commented on the EU countries’ intention to introduce a price ceiling on Russian oil. She added that Moscow would not supply oil to countries supporting this ‘anti-Russian provocation’.
“[The initiative] does have an anti-Russian orientation, but the consequences will be devastating for everyone. We have repeatedly spoken about this,” Zakharova said.
On Wednesday, 2 November, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he wanted to see the Black Sea coast of Crimea ‘after the victory’ over Russia.
“I will go to Crimea. I really want to see the sea,” Zelensky said in an interview with a Czech TV channel.
In his turn, the adviser to the head of the President’s Office, Mykhailo Podolyak, said that he intended to visit Yalta in half a year, when, in his view, the peninsula will be back under Ukrainian control.
The head of the Republic of Crimea Sergei Aksyonov commented on the Ukrainian officials’ statements in his Telegram channel on Monday.
“Someone Podolyak is going to do a live broadcast from the Yalta embankment in six months. Someone Ermak regularly declares a desire to return Crimea to Ukraine. Someone Zelensky also plans to come to Crimea and see the sea. It should be said that Quarter 95 is not original: in 2014, a certain [former Ukrainian Defence Minister] Geletey promised to hold a parade of the AFU in Sevastopol. And where is Geletey now? And more importantly, where will Ukraine be, led by such characters? And it seems that everyone already understands where,” Aksyonov wrote.
