Second time lucky? Japan’s ‘psychic’ parrot backs Spain to beat Japan in World Cup clash

Olivia the ‘psychic’ parrot has picked Spain to beat Japan in their World Cup clash, after wrongly backing Germany to do the same, as footage filmed in Nasu Animal Kingdom, Tochigi Prefecture shows.

The prediction, filmed on November 21, shows Olivia going to the Japanese flag first, before leaving it and taking the Spanish flag to her handler.

Spain play Japan in the final game of the group stage on Thursday and only need a draw to go through to the last 16.

Japan need a win to be guaranteed a spot; a draw could also see them through depending on the Germany-Costa Rica game, while defeat would put them out.

Spain are heavy favourites and the parrot will be hoping its backed a winner this time. After predicting Germany would beat Japan last Wednesday, the home nation surprised everyone with a 2-1 win.

17-year-old Olivia has been making predictions for 13 years. The bird’s big success came at the 2016 Rio Olympics football tournament, where the predictions were correct five times out of seven, or an almost 80 per cent of accuracy rate.
