Police were seen detaining female demonstrators protesting as part of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women in Istanbul’s Kadikoy neighbourhood on Sunday.
The arrests came after Kadikoy District Governor’s decision to ban the protest. Regardless, protest organisers from the ‘Working Women’s Association’, the ‘Socialist Women’s Movement’ and many other groups decided to go ahead with the event
According to local media, 24 people, including the leader of the Communist Movement of Turkey, Aysel Tekerek were detained by police.
