Serbia: Kosovo Serb women rally in Mitrovica ‘against the Kurti ghetto’

As many as 5,000 Kosovo Serb women protested Wednesday in northern Mitrovica urging ease in tensions between Belgrade and Pristina amid a license plate row.

Women marched with flags and a banner reading ‘Mothers of Kosovo against the Kurti ghetto’, addressing Prime Minister of Kosovo Albin Kurti.

“We all want to live peacefully and for our children to grow up peacefully,” a mother said.

November 22nd marks the first day of Kosovo’s decision to start fining drivers who haven’t pre-registered their licence plates from SRB (Serbian) to RKS (Kosovo). Drivers who reside in Kosovo and drive cars with licence plates issued in Serbia will be fined 150 EUR (154 USD).

Earlier talks were held between Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Prime Minister of Kosovo Albin Kurti in Brussels but ended inconclusively.
