Outgoing President Jair Bolsonaro’s Liberal Party asked the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) on Tuesday to overturn the results of last month’s run-off elections, during a press conference in Brasilia.
Bolsonaro’s Liberal Party is calling for the cancellation of ballots from electronic voting machines due to alleged malfunctions. They have cited an audit carried out by a company on behalf of the party as evidence.
Bolsonaro and his party narrowly lost the run-off election last month to left-wing candidate and former President Luiz Inacio ‘Lula’ da Silva. Bolsonaro’s refusal to formally concede defeat triggered chaotic protests across Brazil earlier this month.
Lula will be inaugurated on January 1.
