Armenia: Putin arrives in Yerevan for CSTO meeting


Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Yerevan on Wednesday, ahead of the meeting of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO).

Footage shows the Russian leader disembarking his plane and shaking hands with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

According to media reports, both politicians left the airport in the Russian president’s car.

A bilateral meeting between the two is also scheduled on the sidelines of the summit.

The CSTO summit on Wednesday is attended by Putin and Pashinyan, as well as Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko, Kazakh President Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov and Tajik leader Emomali Rahmon.

The leaders are expected to discuss international and regional security issues; in particular, improving the CSTO crisis response system and joint measures to assist Armenia amid heightened tensions with Azerbaijan.
