USA: NPG represents portraits of Williams sisters, Chef Jose Andres in ‘Portrait of a Nation’ exhibition


Portraits of Chef Jose Andres, Serena, Venus Williams and other influential people joined the Smithsonian’s permanent collection at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC on Thursday as part of “Portrait of a Nation” exhibition.

According to the gallery, the Portrait of a Nation Awards honour individuals who have made transformative contributions to the United States and its people.

As seen in the footage, this year’s exhibition included, chef and humanitarian José Andrés; Grammy Award-winning Music; Academy Award-nominated and Peabody Award-winning filmmaker Ava DuVernay; 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams; and tennis champion Venus Williams.

The gallery also represented executive and Philanthropist Clive Davis; lawyer and children’s rights activist Marian Wright Edelman; Leading public health expert Dr Anthony S. Fauci.

The exhibition will be on view on the museum’s first floor till Oct 22, 2023.
