Italy: Rome to get street pollution map created by new Dutch technology in partnership with Google

A car developed by the Utrecht University Project Air View has been measuring air pollutants on the streets of the Italian capital city Rome to create a pollution map, seen in footage from Tuesday.

The project developed in partnership with Google began assessing pollutants in Copenhagen and later in the Dutch capital before finding its way to Rome.

“We are about to use these measurements to build a model for components of air pollution which are normally not measured in the national stations and those are specifically soot and ultrafine particles,” said a Utrecht University researcher who was driving the car across Rome.

The project will also be developed soon in other European cities.
