Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters took to the streets of Islamabad’s Faizabad suburb on Friday in a rally against the alleged assassination attempt on former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Protesters were seen pelting riot police with stones while blocking a highway. Law enforcement responded by using tear gas to disperse the PTI demonstrators. Several people were taken into police custody.
Protests erupted in several cities across Pakistan after former Prime Minister Imran Khan was injured in an armed attack during a political rally in Gujranwala on Thursday.
Imran Khan sustained a non-fatal injury to his leg and is currently receiving treatment at DHQ Hospital. Several people were injured and one supporter was killed during the incident which has been described as an ‘assassination attempt’.
