A four-storey building believed to house over 50 people burned down after a massive fire in the Ikoyi area of Lagos on Thursday.
Footage captured on Friday shows the charred remains of the residential building with burnt debris strewn across the surrounding streets.
According to reports, locals attempted to douse the flames with buckets of water, but their efforts were in vain. Authorities have yet to release the number of casualties.
One local man claimed the fire started after a gas cylinder exploded near the building.
“When the fire broke out from the gas cylinder, it started on the ground floor, and before we knew it, the fire had spread to the third floor and then to the other side of the building,” he said.
According to local media, firefighters were slow to arrive at the scene.
