German Chancellor Olaz Scholz said it would be a ‘big relief’ commenting on the introduction of a gas price break for households, speaking in Berlin on Wednesday following the meeting with the heads of government of the federal states on the distribution of the cost of the relief measures amid the energy crisis.
“There will be a gas price brake that will help ensure that households do not have to pay more than 40 euro cents per kilowatt hour for the basic needs they have,” Scholz added.
Scholz also commented on the war in Ukraine and the accommodation of refugees.
“Every day cities and villages, roads and infrastructure are destroyed in Ukraine and when we talk about the consequences of this war here, we must not forget that the cause of all the great hardships we have to face is Putin’s war,” Scholz said.
Scholz also underlined that Russian President Vladimir Putin is to be held accountable for the war in Ukraine and the circumstances it has created.
With regard to people seeking refuge and protection in Germany the chancellor announced more intensive work between the federal, state and local governments.
