Argentina President Alberto Fernandez congratulated the newly-elected President of Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, at a meeting in Sao Paulo on Monday, shortly after Lula’s victory in Sunday’s election.
“I have come here personally to give Lula once again my testimony of affection, of friendship, of commitment. He knows that he has an unconditional friend in me,” said Fernandez who had travelled to Sao Paulo on the same day to meet Lula.
In a tight election race, Lula received 50.9 percent of the vote in the final tally, with right-wing incumbent Jair Bolsonaro receiving 49.1 percent.
