Riot police used tear gas against dozens of protesters who took to the streets in Bogota on Friday demanding the release of what they call ‘political prisoners.’
Footage features young men, many with faces covered, marching, chanting, and clashing with police. Some of the protesters can be seen holding posters and banners reading ‘Liberate who liberated us’ and ‘Freedom for political prisoners’.
At some point, protesters began to throw objects at police, tear gas canisters were used in response.
The protest, which also took place in some other cities across the country, was reportedly a response to the decision made by the Colombian Congress which does not grant amnesty to the prisoners on alleged charges encompassing violence, kidnapping, vandalism, and homicide.
