Drifting freely on the river on a single bamboo pole, as if coming straight out of a Chinese Wuxia (martial heroes) novel, Pan Jiuxi, a man from northeast China’s Jilin, has mastered incredible balancing skills after two years of training and practice.
According to Pan Jiuxi who drifted in an eye-catching blood-red getup on the Songhua river on Thursday, he had mastered the drifting skills after several years of improving related skills
Bamboo drifting originated in the Chishui River area of Guizhou, where local people used to cross the river by standing on a bamboo strip, and was listed as a Chinese national intangible cultural heritage in 2021.
